Global Stories. Intimate Reckonings.

katia dona ulysse

Katia D. Ulysse is a genre-bending writer and educator. She is the author of the novel Mouths Don’t Speak and Drifting, a collection of interthematic stories. Her work explores silence, memory, and the quiet forces that shape our lives.

Her writing moves across cultures and histories, examining how personal stories intersect with global realities. Her writing reflects how people carry memory, navigate belonging, and wrestle with the past while imagining new futures.

In addition to fiction, Ulysse participates in in-person and virtual panel discussions and conversations with other writers, engaging audiences in dialogue about storytelling, craft, and the role literature plays in helping us understand the world and ourselves. She contributes to literary conversations at conferences, festivals, and community events, bringing perspectives from both a working writer and a longtime educator.

She is also the author of two multilingual books for children and enjoys visiting schools to speak with students about reading, writing, and the power of storytelling.

Ulysse has spent more than twenty years teaching literacy in Baltimore City. Her years in the classroom inform her belief that education is one of the most powerful catalysts for change. Stories cultivate empathy; history reminds us of the consequences of human choices.

Ulysse holds a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a Master of Education from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
